Immunohistochemical Observation of H-ras p©÷©ö Expression in Malignant renal tissue

Abstract
To observe the expression of the human H-ras pz, in tumor cells with different histologic features of renal cancer, immunchistochemical studies were carried out by using avidin biotin complex immunoperoxidase method in formalin fixed tissue sections from 29 cases of primary tumor mass and 1 case of metastatic tumor. The studies consisted of 21 cases of renal cell carcinoma, 7 cases of ` transitional cell carcinoma, 1 case of squamous cell carcinoma, and 1 case of metastatic choriocarcinoma.
The results were as follows:
1. Expression of H-ras p21 was consistently increased in the granular cell type as compared with clear cell type of renal cell carcinoma.
The individual tumor cells showed rather positive reation in the apical surface than that of cytoplasm.
2. The non-neoplastic renal tubule was uniformly H-ras p2i weakly positive. focally, but the apical cell surface was nonreactive,
3. In renal cell carcinoma, there was no apparent correlation of H-ras p21 expression with the size of tumor and clinical staging.
4 Expression of H -ras p21 was consistently increased in the grade II papillary tumor as compared _ with grade III invasive tumor of transitional cell carcinoma, and the stronger positive reaction was observed in the superficial portion than the basal portion of tumor papillae.
5. Expression of H--ras p21 was observed in squamous cell carcinoma of renal pelvis and metastatic choriocarcinoma.
